[ngw] RCONJ problem

It is important for NetWare 5.1 servers to have DNS records and their
resolv.cfg file properly configured, especially as you move to eliminate
IPX on your network. DNS is the preferred name resolution protocol. The
client will use DNS and SLP to resolve server names and even
partition/tree names. Servers will use it to locate each other as well.
SLP can perform name resolution, however, its main purpose is service
location, rather than name to address resolution.

Forget hosts files - get the servers entered into DNS and make sure
your SLP infrastructure is set up correctly.

The problem is when you have 100 servers and more then one workstation.
We have help desk people that need to have access to those servers.

You can also just edit the hosts file on your workstation and add the
server
names and IP addresses. I do it this way and it works great...

Well Joe Acquisto covered this after I wrote the message but you can
either
type the full server DNS address, server1.domain.com, or if you allow
common
name resolution (in other words: if you enter the server name without
your
domain address, it will append your domain.com after the server name
almost
like NDS names). I'm having troubles describing this but I think you
know what
I mean.

What do you mean common name resolution?

Do you have all your servers' names entered into DNS and allow common
name
resolution?

What do you mean "by computer name" ? Are you typing the server name
into the server address box, or are you clicking "Remote Servers" and
getting no list ?

Does any body have an idea as why when trying to RCONJ into a server
by
computer name doesn't work and when using IP address is OK?

Thank you
