[ngw] GroupWise 7.03 on NetWare, Windows 2003/2008

Good point!  Whenever I have moved or migrated POs...and I just finished a huge project migrating to Linux/OES2. I pre-copied the POs over.  In this case, with DBCOPY and then did the final copy after-hours beginning on Friday night...the dbcopy finished updating sometime on Saturday, but that gave me plenty 'o time to allow for problems...and most often there were one or two. (The largest PO was over 200 GB)  Not show stoppers...but enough to make me glad I had budgeted the time from the get-go.

We've opted to go with a Thursday evening of GroupWise upgrades for a given server, followed up by a Monday/Tuesday hardware migration to Win 2008.  We're going to test the upgrade scenario with both a windows 2003 box and a NetWare 6.5 box and then migrate the data from the NetWare server to a windows 2008 server.  Once we're comfortable with the code, we'll schedule the upgrades/migrations.
Yeah, I'm not willing to risk running that code on Windows 2008.  Plus it's no longer supported any ways, so if I have to install the software, it might as well be the newest stuff.
 
Adventurous?  I drive Rt. 302 from Raymond to Portland every day and back again in the evening.  That's all the adventure I need.

Even though the GW7 -> GW8 upgrade is relatively painless, I suspect you would like to upgrade backend/frontend at the same time, which might be a few too many changes for one weekend.

By "GW7 not supported on WIN2008", does this mean the executables do not even RUN? Or just that the installer does not work? IF you were adventurous, you MIGHT be able to manually install the GW7 EXE files on WIN2008, and run for a few weeks during a transition period.

However, I have ZERO experience running this way, as we have decided to run our GW systems on Linux (OES2). It just "seems" plausible...
