I think it changed with a GroupWise service pack not the OS...maybe 7.0 SP3, I can't remember. Either way, I'm pretty sure this is no longer the case.

Last I heard, you should only use Samba if no more than one administrator at a time will be managing GW. At least that was the case with SLES10. Not sure if that's changed with SLES11.

I use Samba shares on SLES11 for managing from my workstation. I can even control who can access them via Active Directory groups. It's been working great.

Depends on what you are planning on doing. If you are used to managing GW from your Workstation (Windows) and already using the Novell Client, then usually people recommend you go with OES. Then you can either use NSS and mount the domain or use a Linux FS (Ext3, ReiserFS, etc) and use ncpcon to also mount as NSS to connect through via Novell Client. If you have no problem managing the GW system from the server itself then you can go with SLES10/11, which means less configuration on the sever side.
There is really no "right" answer as some would prefer that it runs on SLES others would say running it on OES is better. It personally took me the better part of a year to decide... in the end I went with OES to utilize NCS for failover support (guess I should've mentioned that above).

I've also been reading the discussions and am confused about whether or not to put the system on OES2(SLES10SP3) or just SLES11, and why one over the other.
