There is a environment option that I have locked for the entire GroupWise system under Client Options -> Cleanup -> "Do not purge items until they are backed up". The user will only be able to empty items in the Trash that have been backed up then. This is a good feature to have locked down.

Which means you will probably find email in your trash (unless they were purged before backup, either manually or automatically). Keep in mind that if you find the email in the trash, you must first undelete it and then you can go to the folder and restore it.

That must be it. He tells me he cleans his mailbox and sent daily before he leaves for the day. Time to go to tape.

And if the messages were deleted before the backup was made that day... nada. That's how backup restore works.

Remind you that with a backup you only get to see messages that are not in the live mailbox. It's not an archive.

I use dbcopy to copy some of my post office to another volume on my Netware servers. I need to use restore area management for a user who deleted a few messages he needed. I created the area, used the correct UNC. However when the user, from the client, goes into the backup area, the folders are there, but no messages. Nothing. I see the user and message databases and the various files in offiles.
What could I be missing?
