[ngw] Hosting Groupwise for several internet domain names

All the users are in the same system so this should only need one WA agent unless you customize the pages. Biggest issue is the cert since you can only have one per apache instance last I checked.

We would setup the webaccess on the same server. I guess we'll configure Apache just as we would for virtual web servers. Each internet domain will obviously have it's own URL. Though they will all come the same place, we'll make entries in Apache's vhosts config to point the to the right page/agent.

Thanks,
Dan

In our case they share one webaccess server with a third party cert but that may not work for you unless they are willing to have the url be .<thehostingcompany>.com or if you use a self signed cert suing only IPs but that is not highly recommended.

Chad,

Do these user also user Webaccess? Did you put up a custom page to determine which WA Agent to call?

TIA,
Dan

Did not really follow any document per se. Just works. If you have specific questions, you can email me off list and we can compare notes and config options. I am sure this is much more common than you may think. Maybe not as hosted but more parent/child company configs.

In short:
Company A PO
Company B PO
Single domain with single GWIA
No port conflicts as long as POA ports are unique - standard stuff
GWIA has both company A and B domains defined as valid in Internet Addressing
Disable global address book
All users, resources, dist lists and so on have visibility set to PO only
All users, resources, dist lists and so on have internet addressing defined to their specific domain and the exclusive option is set

You could crate multiple domains if you so desired as well and there are arguments for and against doing so. This is just how we do it but I defer to the list for potential better ways. In our case, we have several business units and we only need limited separation. Our idea of this being easy to manage is also skewed by the fact that we have IDM managing the GW accounts.

Chad,

I've been googling all day and can't seem to find anything. I also have all the GW admin manuals back to 5.5. Can you point me to the doc you referenced when setting this up?

Thanks,
Dan

We do this here with over a dozen domain names and several POs with a single GWIA. Just be careful with account visiblity, the global address book and also make sure to always select the ..Use is only know by this email.. check box. Other than that, GW handles this just fine and does not really require any real additional setup IMO.

Just my 2 cents.

I've setup GWIA's to handle multiple internet domains, but only for a single company with a single PO.
In this situation, each internet domain should have it's own PO for separation. The biggest conflict I see is port 25 (and 143 IMAP).
You wouldn't want each domain to have to use different ports.
Can the GWIA be configured to handle multiple PO's and route based on the recipient's internet domain? Or does the MTA handle that?
I don't mind each internet domain having to use a different PO port in their client's.

TIA,
Dan

No port conflicts exist, unless hosting more than one MTA or PO on a

single host, with single IP.

It's fairly straight forward to have multiple "email domains" handled

by one GWIA.

Greetings all,

I have a client requesting we host GW for them. No biggie, usually, we've

done it before. However, this client has half a dozen different internet

domains that should be treated as completely separate entities--not the same

users with different addresses.

So, I figured we'd just create a GW domain for each internet domain but...

what about the ports conflicts?

Has anyone done this?

Can you point me to a reference on how to set this up?

TIA<

Dan
