I see you are running on Netware yet. Bite the bullet and go to *nix. I think your issues will go away...at least a lot of them have for me. Rock-solid performance. Ymmv though...but I would be willing to bet a happier outcome.

Well, thanks to the advice of folks on this list IMAP is running better. At least it isn't crashing twice a day. But now I'm concerned about its efficiency. The configuration allows for something like 250 threads each for standard and secure connections which kind of implies to me that it should be able to handle up to 250 concurrent users. Unfortunately the figures don't seem to work out that way and I'm starting to get complaints that it isn't running. On top of that I've got campus IT admins who have threatened to just generally publish the connections information so that thousands of people will try to pile into the little clown car at one time.

Right now I've got over 300 sessions with a bit over 50% of them active. Usually the active connections ran about 5 - 15. Now its ten times that. Is this normal traffic for everyone else? Is your GWIA handling traffic of that size?

Per recommendations I've been holding the memory at 3 Gig. For some stretches of time I have no problem and the number of active connections is reasonably low. But then the number of active connections begins to climb. Perhaps not by co-incidence I get things like

Short term memory allocator is out of memory.
7292 attempts to get more memory failed.
request size in bytes 4928486 from Module GWIA.NLM

mixed with

Cache memory allocator out of available memory.

And often this is in the wee hours of the morning when all decent folks should be in bed instead of checking their mail.

Should I increase memory to 4 Gig? Any other adjustments I can make? Is this really too many people at one time?

Lil
