[ngw] SLES 15 SP3 for GroupWise

The issue I saw is a non issue, it was more of a "how long does it take this thing to start up".. but was because I turned the option on to sync shares. They must have had a ton of them because it took about 6 hours. We've reverted that setting and the customer doesn't need that function, and it starts up pretty quick now. Marvin

GMS 18.3.1 is a bit of a challenge because you can't upgrade to it.
You need a new install on SLES15SP3.

I did a production GroupWise upgrade over the weekend, 5 total servers, all SLES 15 SP3, 1400 users. Migrated from older SLES 11 servers. No problems whatsoever and everything went pretty smoothly.

GMS 18.3.1 on the other hand... that's a different story ;)

James, yes. I had tried those with no luck. I did more digging based on this though, and I found the solution. But to understand and help others that may have this issue, here are the symptoms and answers to your original question. I have the actual solution down below..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
systemctl start grpwise.service is successful and starts the agents.
systemctl status grpwise.service shows agents running as expected.
systemctl is-enabled grpwise.service results in "disabled"
systemctl enable grpwise.service results in the following error:

grpwise.service is not a native service, redirecting to systemd-sysv-install.
Executing: /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install enable grpwise
/sbin/insserv: No such file or directory

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solution:

I had to install the insserv-compat package in Yast. Once I did this I was able to successfully enable the GroupWise services. I assume this is not just an SP3 issue, it's just a missing package but I haven't run into it with earlier builds.

Checked systemctl is-enabled grpwise.service ?
If not enabled, then systemctl enable grpwise.service, then systemctl start grpwise.service

You may have already checked this, but just in case...

Marvin,

I think there is a tid on this but I am not in a spot with a good internet connection. I will see if I can find it in the morning

The issue at hand.. I'm able to start/stop the GroupWise services manually on SP3. However currently GroupWise services will not start automatically with the system on boot. They show disabled in the services manager, and when I try to change it, I receive the following error:

Writing the configuration failed:
Could not set 'grpwise' to be started on boot. Would you like to continue editing.

It's not a show stopper, just slightly annoying.

Marvin,

It should be fine. As far as I remember off the top of my head, we've not had any calls on issues with it.

Has anybody upgraded their GroupWise servers to SLES 15 SP3 yet? Does it work? Any issues? Is it officially supported by Micro Focus?

(Not talking about GMS, I'm talking about the main GroupWise agents).

Thanks.
